Journal of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering was first published in 1971. The journal is a Chinese Core Journal of PKU, Journal of Statistic Source of Scientific and Technological Thesis (CSTPCD) and Chinese Core Journal (RCCSE), and is a journal with high academic influence in the domestic mechanical field, featuring reports on the application of machinery, instrumentation technology, mechatronics technology and automation technology in the mechanical field.

According to the Annual Report of Influence Factor of Chinese Academic Journals (Natural Science and Engineering Technology) (2017 Edition), the composite influence factor of Journal of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is 1.120, ranking 10th among the 89 domestic journals of mechanical engineering disciplines listed by CNKI.
