Zhejiang Wanli University, organized by Zhejiang Wanli Education Group, is a provincial ordinary undergraduate university with a history of 70 years. In 1999, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to become a new type of university that is, "a state-run university implementing new management mode and operational mechanism", and was praised by education experts as "an exemplary practice of a modern university system with Chinese characteristics".

In the past 20 years of innovative education, the university has become an applied university with coordinated development of multiple disciplines in literature, economics, management, science, engineering, agriculture, law and art. The university has 75 provincial platforms, including provincial top-priority disciplines, first-rate disciplines, key research bases for philosophy and social sciences, academicians and experts workstations, experimental teaching demonstration centers, and key laboratories, 4 "national first-rate undergraduate major construction points" and 8 "provincial first-rate major construction points".  In the past two years, it has ranked among the top in the multi-disciplinary teaching-oriented universities in Zhejiang Province. In the past five years, it has obtained more than 200 projects at or above the provincial and ministerial level, and nearly 800 horizontal projects, with a total investment of about 400 million yuan in scientific research.
